The Merten Loft: the story
The Merten loft is a two story apartment in the Bi=
lbao
building situated in the hear=
t of
Achrafieh, Beirut-Lebanon.
Located between ABC Mall and the
Spinney’s Supermarket, walking distance from Sassine square coffee sh=
ops,
Gemayze pubs and Beirut Central District’s restaurants and night life=
.
The loft was designed to accommod=
ate
a family of 5, twin girls 19 years of age, a 17 year old boy and a 7 year o=
ld
child and a mother.
A single mother that works till l=
ate
hours travels often and entertains at home.
The teens enjoy the company of th=
eir
friends, and enjoy bar hopping on the weekends.
240 square meters costs about 2000
USD per year to heat, and about 700 USD in electrical bills per month, prom=
pted
the need to manage the power and fuel bills thru Home Automation.
The difference in age groups of t=
he
family provoked the need to have a thermostat in every room to manage the
heating and cooling temperatures individually in every room.
Stepping out of the elevator, a
welcoming light is prompted by the ceiling mounted Presence detector.
To the right, a finger scanner is
located to allow access to the family members.
We rang the door bell, the door w=
as
opened by remote control and the lady of the house was sitting comfortably =
on
the balcony with the cheese and wine awaiting our arrival.
The music was prompted by the same
remote control; the ambient scene was also changed.
To the left there was a motion se=
nsor
that activated a wall light only when light was needed.
The guest bathroom light was swit=
ched
on automatically via motion sensor, when unoccupied the lights go off except
the floor spots and the ventilation fan which stays on for a specific time.=
Dinner was to be served; the ligh=
ts
were prompted above the dining table, by remote control or by the elegant
Merten multi function keypad near the dining table.
Saved scenes for the dining area =
and
the living area and the balcony were created and amended by the tenants of =
the
loft as needed.
Dimming the light was easy, long
press to dim long press to raise the lux.
The 7 years old was in bed alread=
y,
coming down the stairs, the stair case lights automatically activated a dim
light to show him his way down safely.
Mom went to the IP toutch panel
turned on the lights upstairs, adjusted the temperature to a comfortable le=
vel
and walked him to his bed again.
After dinner, the lady of the hou=
se
pressed scene 2 on the IP touch panel which prompted a nice and comfortable
scene for drinks after dinner.
Some of us sat on the bar, and so=
me
of us on the couch, it felt like a high class pub.
The evening was wonderful.
The Merten loft flower beds were
wonderfully healthy; the ip touch panel perpetual timer kept them watered j=
ust
enough to be healthy and blooming. No chance to forget, and just the right
amount of water to stay healthy all year round.
During the whole evening, the
thermostat was adjusting the a/c or the heating to the set temperature in t=
he
room.
When the lovely evening ended, the
lady of the house went to the IP toutch panel and pushed the good night sce=
ne:
the curtains closed, all the shutters in the house closed , the common areas
lights were turned off and the entrance motion sensor was activated showing her the way =
to her
bedroom, where the dim light and the bathroom light was on, and of course s=
he
had hot water because the ip toutch panel timer had already activated the h=
ot
water bottle a couple of hours before.
Now she can shower and tuck into =
bed,
turn off the lights from her bed side, activate the alarm and lower the
shutters.
In the morning at 630 am, the
shutters will come up just half way so she can tend to her business.
Ambiance, comfortable temperature=
and
safety; It is easy living at the Merten loft.
The lady of the house can afford =
to buy
that convertible, because her heating bill is cut in half
And her electrical bill is also c=
ut
in half.
The best conditions for a wonderf=
ul
Living!
